On a fine and sunny Sunday afternoon, 17 February 2008, CHIJ Alumni members gathered at the IJ Home in Ang Mo Kio Street 13 for a celebratory Lunar New Year lunch with the sisters of the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus and the elderly residents of the former CHIJ Orphanage.
The cheer in the air was unmistakable as the 10 Secondary one members of the CHIJ Secondary School choir and the two IJ idol winners joined the Alumni for the celebration. They chatted happily with the residents and sisters, and sang hymns and Lunar New Year songs, bring festivity and joy to the simple, spartan but comfortable IJ Home.
Lunch was a mouth-watering 8-course Chinese feast of suckling pig and traditional Lunar New Year dishes, sponsored by generous Alumni members. Everyone tucked in with relish, after which ang-pows, also generously sponsored by Alumni members, were distributed to all residents and sisters. It was a very fulfilling and satisfying way to spend a Sunday afternoon!
