Charity high tea fashion show - “discover your passion”

The brainchild of Mrs Matthews, this project aimed to allow the girls to learn out of the classroom.

The Alumni would prove to be the cornerstone to help this group of then Secondary 3 girls raise their self-esteem and increase their motivation to learn.

Three members of the student development sub-committee suggested the idea of a fashion show - “Discover Your Passion”.

Eighty girls from Sec 4/5, 4/6 and 4/10 (Normal Stream) were to put up a spectacular fashion show on 16th February 2008.

The girls learned discipline with the early morning meetings on alternate Saturdays at 8am. They learned to work with others, communicating effectively, despite constraints and frustrations.

The girls had a taste of what project management was all about as they had to source for sponsorship of clothes, shoes, make up and door gifts for the goody bags. Another group had to put together the programme booklet, printing of tickets and liaising with external vendors.

Teaching of life skills was part and parcel of this historic project. It was not an easy task for the girls as they had to do follow-up calls with companies that they wrote to.

The most challenging part was soliciting for sponsorship, all done during the festive period. As mentors we also challenged them to their stretch their limits while providing adult guidance and work experience. It was a golden opportunity for the girls to showcase their talents. Through this event, they raised over S$13 000 and the proceeds of which went to Clementi IJ Home. This was well over their initial target of S$7000.

The day came and the girls executed the show with a BLAST!

It was their moment of glory. They performed with confidence, passion and enthusiasm.

They started this project from scratch and now they have something to remember for life.
