Annual CHIJ Mass for P6 & Sec 4/5 Students

Pre-exam mass was held at CHIJMES on August 16, 2008 at 11am. The chapel was packed with over 300 students and accompanying parents just before the mass started. This is the best attended pre-exam mass in many years.

For me, it was a beautiful recollection of the good old days when I was studying at CHIJ Victoria Street. The chapel was one of my favourite spots for the 11 years I was there, giving me comfort and encouragement in the presence of Jesus Christ. Knowing that He journeys with us was enough to help me through my years (especially during my exam period!!) at IJ Victoria Street.

Fr Michael walked in to the beautiful opening hymn Canticle of the Sun, sung by the choir comprising of Primary and Secondary students. Attendees were encouraged to drop the usual “auto mode” and participate fully in the celebration of the Eucharist.

The message for the students was to be Simple in virtue, Steadfast in duty. Fr Michael talked about how IJ girls live up to that motto in giving to each other while at the school and after leaving the school, continuing to give back.

The entire mass was very lively and we could all feel the presence of Christ watching over the children who bring their prayers before the alter of the Lord. The body and blood of Christ was assimilated by all who attended. Every host was given out and even the wine was served to the last drop!

When I spoke to the students about the CHIJ Alumni, what we do at the alumni and what we can all contribute to our alma mater, a sense of pride and excitement ran through me. I wish I had joined the alumni actively earlier, but it is never too late. I could see the amount of pride the student had for their school Once an IJ girl, always an IJ girl!

All left the chapel with a warm feeling of the love of God through Jesus Christ.
